Soft Tissue Injuries

Contact an Adamson Ahdoot Lawyer if You Have Suffered Soft Tissue Injuries from an Accident

Although it may seem minor, a soft tissue injury can have lasting negative effects. Who hasn’t experienced tendonitis, sprains, or bruises as a result of routine activities? However, suffering such injuries as a result of an accident leads to more significant complications.

As a result, any form of injury or pain related to an incident caused by someone else’s negligence is actionable. Even if you consider your injury to be minor, the recovery process for soft tissue damage can take anywhere from a few days to several years. The length of recovery depends on the severity and location of the injury.

If you or a loved one has suffered a sprain, whiplash, or shoulder impingement due to an accident caused by someone else’s negligence, do not hesitate to contact us. At Adamson Ahdoot, we have over 100 years of combined legal experience and know how to secure compensation for your damages. Call us today at (800) 310-1606, or contact us online if you have any questions or would like to discuss your case further.

What is a Soft Tissue Injury?

As defined by the National Cancer Institute (NIH), soft tissue refers to muscle, fat, fibrous tissue, blood vessels, or other tissues that support the body.

These injuries involve damage to skin, fat, muscle, tendons, or ligaments.

Soft Tissue Symptoms

Soft tissue injuries can manifest as bruises, cuts, or sprains. For instance, a minor soft tissue injury may occur if you sprained your ankle during a soccer game or cut your finger while preparing dinner.

In general, these injuries are associated with pain and swelling. Soft tissue injuries are classified as follows:

  • Contusions or bruises
  • Sprains
  • Tendinitis
  • Strains
  • Bursitis
  • Stress injuries

Common Types of Injuries

How do these injuries happen? They happen because of sudden trauma. Strains and sprains can occur when there is a twist, a blow, prolonged direct pressure, stretching, or abrupt contraction (in muscles). The forced execution of these movements causes tearing and possible separation of muscle fibers, tendons or ligaments from their anchor point.

Some of the most common soft tissue injuries resulting from serious accidents include

  • Whiplash injury
  • Sprains
  • Brain contusion
  • Shoulder impingement
  • Herniated disc
  • Cuts or lacerations

While these are common injuries, leaving them untreated often leads to complications for many victims. Unfortunately, people who suffer from soft tissue injury mistakenly believe that time and rest alone will heal them. However, this misconception can lead to serious medical complications. Infection, thrombosis, rhabdomyolysis, or myositis ossificans are some of the most serious and potentially fatal consequences.

Frequent Accidents That Cause Soft Tissue Damage

  • Soft tissue injuries are most commonly caused by traffic accidents. These accidents often involve powerful blows to the body.
  • Bicycle and motorcycle accidents are another common cause. In these accidents, the body collides directly with the road surface and can result in cuts, lacerations, and brain contusions, especially if a helmet is not worn.
  • Slips, trips, and falls usually lead to minor tissue damage. However, if these incidents are caused by spilled liquids or a poorly maintained ladder, the impact can have severe health consequences.
  • Dismemberment or trapping in machinery, either in the workplace when using heavy machinery or at home.
