Naval Fighter Jet Crashed in Kern County

October 29, 2020 Alan Ahdoot

A naval pilot crashed a fighter jet in east Kern County on Tuesday, October 20th. The crash location was discovered to be around Robber’s Roost, which is in the vicinity of Highway 178 and Highway 14, near Ridgecrest. California Highway Patrol and Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to the scene. The jet was on fire when they arrived. It is estimated that the crash occurred in the morning. The pilot managed to escape the jet, an F/A-18E Super Hornet, before it crashed. It is unknown whether they were injured. They were flying the jet as part of a routine flight training, taking off from Lemoore Naval Air Station.

What Legal Actions Can You Take if You Sustain Injuries from A Plane Crashing Nearby?

Normally, airlines provide compensation for injuries sustained by their passengers – but what if you were injured not as a passenger, but as a passerby when their plane crashes? In this case, you can still file a personal injury claim against the party who owns the flight – which can range from a government agency (like the case above), a company, or even an individual (in small aircraft cases). The type and process of personal injury claims will differ depending on the party you are suing.
