Highway 58 Two-Vehicle Crash Killed Two People
A two-vehicle crash was reported on Highway 58, near Edison Highway, on Monday, November 2nd. California Highway Patrol was the first responder present at the scene of the accident. An Acura car was driving in the opposite direction of the lane when it crashed into a Ford vehicle just before 10:00 p.m. Neither tried to evade the other and as a result, two people were found dead by the time the authorities arrived at the scene. The victims were identified as a 34-year-old man named Christopher Raoul Dismus and a 32-year-old man named Arnulfo Chavez. Both men were residents of Bakersfield. It is unknown whether the vehicles were occupied only by the two men or if there were any other driver or passenger present. Several of Highway 58’s lanes were closed while the investigation of the crash was ongoing.
Who Is At Fault in a Wrong-Way Crash?
Wrong-way crashes tend to be more fatal than other crash types. But who is at fault when it does happen? The person who was driving in the wrong lane? Yet, what if the road markers are not clear enough to let the person know the direction of the lane? Is it possible that an online mapping service fails to notify the person of the lane change? In such scenarios, it can be more difficult to determine the at-fault party, even though lives have already been claimed. It doesn’t mean you can’t honor their memory by taking legal actions on their behalf, however.
