A woman identified as Chan Reyes, who was found to have fled overseas following a hit-and-run incident where she killed a bicyclist, was extradited from Australia on Thursday, October 29th. The incident happened in 2017 in Southern California. The bicyclist was identified as a 46-year-old man named Agustin Rodriguez Jr. He was pronounced dead at the scene after a white Lexus, driven by Reyes dragged him for several hundred feet. Reyes fled the scene and immediately fixed up her car claiming that she hit a deer. A co-worker in Reyes’s old workplace gave a tip to the authorities, identifying her as the driver responsible. Reyes then fled overseas and was found to have spent time in Hongkong and Adelaide for several years. She will be facing criminal charges for her actions.

Can You Still Pursue A Lawsuit if the Statute of Limitations Have Already Passed?

Unfortunately, this is not possible. You cannot pursue a lawsuit against an at-fault driver if you have not filed a claim before the statute of limitations has passed. In California, if you are planning to pursue a personal injury claim, you have up to 2 years from the date of the crash to do it. However, you need to know that if you have already filed the claim before that date, yet the claim has not yet been processed due to events such as the case above, then it is still possible to continue the process.
