Giving is in the Blood

The UCLA Blood & Platelet Center and Adamson Ahdoot Outreach team teamed up for a multi-day initiative!

Over the past nine months, the Adamson Ahdoot Outreach team has been fortunate enough to participate in events that made a difference in our neighbors’ lives. Not content, the team asked itself, “why do a day event, when you can do a week!” The end result was a blood drive linkup with Bruin blue and gold!

The Outreach team just finished the weeklong blood drive in partnership with the UCLA Blood & Platelet Center. The event which ran from Monday, January 9 to Saturday, the 14th gave prospective donors plenty of opportunity to actually make it in. UCLA made it even easier, by having two different donation sites. The Ackerman Student Union and the Westwood Village Donor Center opened their doors to these eligible donors.

Adamson Ahdoot committed to making a donation for every person that checked in at either site during the Blood Drive to Bruin Shelter! Bruin Shelter, a UCLA undergraduate volunteer organization that operates a shelter for unhoused students in the greater Los Angeles area, is the first student-run shelter for students in the country.

This meant the focus was not only on making sure the UCLA Blood & Platelet Center was stocked during these opening months of the year, when their supply is shortest. But, also, in making certain essential resources make it to unhoused students or students facing food scarcity.

Just because you missed the Adamson Ahdoot Outreach team-sponsored blood drive event doesn’t mean you missed your shot to donate blood. All prospective donors should complete a self-screening guide before trying to donate, however. Bruin Shelter also accepts help at any time. Interested parties can donate on their website.
