Advocate Giving Back to Her Community

The daughter of immigrants, Astina Shakilyan has dedicated her career to standing up for vulnerable communities

It is with great pleasure and pride that Adamson Ahdoot welcomes Astina Shakilyan to the firm and attorney team.

A first-generation Armenian-American, Astina found her calling in law early in life. She was constantly exposed to the challenges her immigrant community faced and decided she would use her education and platform to position herself to defend her loved ones. She is the first attorney in her family.

“There is something truly special about giving back to those in your community who are underprivileged and less fortunate than you are. I am very passionate about making sure that clients know their rights and standing up for those rights,” Astina shared. “I take immense pride in advocating for those who are in vulnerable positions and making sure they know I will be there at every step of the way.”

Astina earned an undergraduate degree in Philosophy from UC Irvine. While in law school at Southwestern in Los Angeles, she was a highly recognized student who consistently placed in the top places in her class. She received her Juris Doctor in May of 2021 and passed the California Bar in November of the same year. Astina is licensed and admitted to practice before all California state courts.

A Track Record of Consistent Advocacy

Before joining Adamson Ahdoot, Astina worked at the Los Angeles County Public Defender’s Office. She shared that she “thoroughly enjoyed fighting for my client’s rights, whether it was at arraignment, motion hearings, or jury trials.” In this way, she was able to assist the vibrant but underrepresented LA community.

At Adamson Ahdoot, she hopes to continue her life’s work of leveling the playing field for all people. She will be a champion for all clients, immigrants and non-immigrants alike. She will surely bring the same spirit of advocacy she’s shown throughout her career to her role at Adamson Ahdoot. AA Law is proud to welcome Astina to the legal team and family!
