75-year-old dead in hit-and-run
Hector Castro Hirales leaves behind 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren
The LAPD is seeking the public’s help in finding the driver in a hit-and-run accident that left Hector Hirales dead on April 27.
The 75-year-old Hirales was fatally struck in South Los Angeles when the driver of a silver compact SUV was turning left onto Trinity Street from 41st Place in Historic South-Central. The crash occurred at about 9:15 p.m., when visibility was low.
Surveillance video released by police shows the driver of the SUV speed through the intersection, striking Hirales at high speed. Despite momentarily slowing down, the SUV sped off, fleeing the scene.
Although Hirales was taken to the hospital, he was pronounced dead on arrival.
“Today we just saw the footage, and we can’t believe that this person just struck him and left him lying there,” the victim’s daughter Cynthia Rodriguez said. “After he struck him, he went over him and paused and then just kept going.”
“Our family is broken, and we’ll never be the same,” Hirales’ granddaughter Vanessa Aranda expressed.
Authorities from the LAPD are offering a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction in this case. Please contact (213) 833-3713 or via email at, 32010@lapd.online if you have any information.
