Electric Scooter Rider Severely Injured After Oildale Crash
On Wednesday, October 14th, a two-vehicle collision was reported to have happened in Oildale. California Highway Patrol is the first responder at the scene. They received information that the collision occurred near Robert Lane and North Chester Avenue. The time of the incident was not yet disclosed by the authorities. A man who was riding his electric scooter while traveling on the bike lane was struck by a Honda car when his scooter veered into the road. As a result, the man sustained severe injuries and was sent to the hospital for further treatment. The driver of the Honda was unharmed.
Can Electric Scooter Riders File A Personal Injury Claim?
Yes, they can but they may be more limited to their claim options than other vehicle owners. First of all, electric scooter owners do not need to have auto insurance, unlike other vehicles. This means that if you were an electric scooter owner who was involved in a single-vehicle crash, medical bills for any injuries you sustain will need to be covered by your health insurance. Of course, you will have to pay out-of-pocket for any damage done to your electric scooter.
However, if you were involved in a two-vehicle collision with an automobile owner, then just like all automobile accident victims, you have the right to file a claim to the at-fault driver’s insurance provider. You must be prepared, though, since the insurance provider might try to give you a lower payout or even deny it by claiming that you share negligence for the accident.
